How we do it

How we work

We work with children either at their schools, or other suitable venues.

Sometimes classroom teachers recognise that the work we are doing with one student would be of benefit to other students. We will work with teachers to make those resources available to other students.

We use a personalised mix of one-on-one tuition and online tools.

Screening for dyslexia

Learning Ways uses the Lucid suite of screening tools to screen for dyslexia. Lucid identifies the student’s learning strengths and underlying difficulties and makes recommendations for remedial work.

The process takes between 1 – 2 hours and gives families information with which to make decisions about next steps.

Next steps could include a more comprehensive assessment, tuition and/or referral to other specialist services (e.g. hearing or vision assessment). If, after an effective targeted intervention, the response is not satisfactory we may refer the student for a comprehensive assessment.

When a comprehensive assessment has been undertaken, we can provide assistance in interpreting technical reports in plain language

Tuition

We have trained and experienced independent contractors.

Child learners often excel in an online learning environment. We have secured educational computer based programs that foster learning, build capability and champion achievement.

These programs are all researched and proven to be evidence-based software that promotes reading, mathematics and thinking skills. Independent learners also need accountability and someone to cheer and acknowledge their achievements.

Learning Ways monitors the student’s progress and through lessons helps them keep on track.  We sometimes use other resource materials that reinforce what the student needs to learn.

Change is needed so that all children who go to school, regardless of their circumstances (biological or environmental), have approximately the same probability of success in learning to read and write. – Chapman and Tunmer, 2019

“Equity in education is not about treating everyone the same – one size does not fit all. Rather it is about acknowledging individual strengths and weaknesses and working with those”.
