What we do
Neurodiversity

Nuerodiverse is a relatively new term being used to describe people who learn differently.
While it denotes a greater acceptance of those who behave and learn differently it can mask the fact that reading, and numeracy are critical skills for survival in the 21st century.
There is now the research evidence available to show what methods do actually work to develop reading in all children but are absolutely essential for those who learn differently.
Owning the research
We are committed to using and promoting these methods. We know that when reading difficulties are identified early and help provided, there are positive outcomes for students and the whole community.
The high levels of illiteracy among the unemployed and in our prisons is evidence of not addressing the needs of people who learn differently.
Our scope of work
At Learning Ways Trust, we take a holistic and comprehensive approach to the learning needs of your child. These include:
- Working one-on-one with children – often at school
- listening and advise
- Computer-based screening and educational resource
- Support to parents or teachers working with students
- specialist teachers
Connecting with others
The network of services supporting families and students with Specific Learning Difficulties in Wellington is small and the need is great.
We believe service providers and educational professionals need to work together – to avoid duplication, to share expertise and to support families.
